Forum: texts Subject: An easier way to download DjVu files

On the pages for text entries, there is a link labeled "DjVu," but when right click on it and try to download the file, I get redirected to a different file called "load_djvu_applet.php". I don't want to see the file in an applet, I want to download it to my hard drive. The only way I've found to accomplish this is to take the "All files" link and scan the long list of files for one ending in .djvu and then download that. It seems like the DjVu link should be a direct link to the file.
Thanks.

Eddy,

Your browser is missing the plug-in for DJVU files. It should open right up in the browser.

Hi Gerry.
Thanks for the answer, but that's exactly my point - I don't want it to open up in my browser, I want to save it to disk so I can read it at my leisure later.
Thanks.

Eddie,

Files on Internet Archive are either in streaming mode (ie. open in an application and download in chunks as needed) or a native file (save to disk all at once). The same link can't do both, so there are two separate ways to access the file (from the main work page, or via the HTML file directory link). I guess IA figures most people want the streaming mode version so it's the default on the work page.

Fair enough. I guess I'll just keep going to the listings page.

Eddy,

Just right click on the djvu file and do save link as; it will save it to your workstation.

replace /stream/ with /download/ :D

It would be even better if the Archive provided a direct djvu download link, instead of us having to replace 'stream' with 'download'...

They do provide the links. You just need to select the HTTP link and you get selection for all the files.
